Lake X Ranch
The upland forests and wetlands located on the Lake X Ranch are some of the most diverse and historic forests in the state. They cover a variety of climates, soils, and moisture conditions. The upland forests vary in tree and plant species from north to south Florida, including oak, cypress hammocks, long-leaf pines and hardwoods. The upland forests are mostly surrounded by stretches of flatwoods and areas of sandhill forests. Because of the many different ecosystems of the Lake X Ranch, there is a wide diversity of trees and plants that fl ourish on the Ranch.
Uplands
Conservation of the property’s natural resources, including its soils, forests and vegetation is carried out by the Ranch through adherence to best land management practices, conservation principles and systematic monitoring. The Ranch is active in the conservation of its uplands through ongoing management of non-native flora species, and the encouragement of native flora to maintain the property’s natural balance.
Wetlands
The majority Lake X Ranch is comprised of pristine and untouched wetlands. The wetlands have formed over time in low lying areas where the groundwater level is at or above the surface of the surrounding landscape. The wetlands support an array of birds, crustaceans, amphibians, reptiles and fish, as well as a broad range of vegetation and plant life. The Foundation is active in the conservation of its wetlands through ongoing management of non-native plants, and the encouragement of native plants to ensure the continued vitality of these resoources.
